About Us
For all, a life of freedom,
safety, and belonging.
Safe Independence Solutions is a Michigan-based human services organization dedicated to redefining autonomy — combining clinical expertise with enabling technology so every individual can lead a dignified, community-integrated life.
Our Story
A family mission — not just a business.
Safe Independence Solutions was born from lived experience. As parents of five children, Eli and Caroline Maina understand the fundamental need for a safe, nurturing, and stable environment — and they treat every person they serve with the same care and dedication they give their own family.
What started as a vision to close the gap between fragmented care services has grown into a coordinated system of residential care, specialized transportation, and assistive technology — all under one roof, serving communities across Southwest Michigan.
- Serving Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Barry, Allegan, Kent & Schoolcraft counties
- Pioneered remote support for individuals with intellectual disabilities
- Clinical and technology expertise combined in every plan
What We Believe
Three principles guide every decision
These aren't slogans — they're the standard we hold ourselves to in every service we provide.
-
Dignity First
We support people on their own terms — respecting autonomy, preferences, and pace. Support should feel like partnership, not oversight.
-
Proactive Safety
We don't wait for a crisis. Monitoring, check-ins, and care coordination are designed to catch small changes before they become big problems.
-
Genuine Connection
Families shouldn't have to chase updates. We keep everyone informed and aligned — so no one carries the worry of caring alone.
Meet the Founders
People you can trust with what matters most
Safe Independence is led by two specialists whose combined clinical and technology expertise is at the heart of everything we do.

Eli served as a state-level Trainer for Home and Community Based Settings (HCBS) and pioneered the creation of the first-ever Remote Support Center in the Northeast — dedicated to virtual support for people with intellectual disabilities.

A Registered Nurse with a background in Physical Therapy, Caroline oversees all training, policy development, and health standards at Safe Independence. Her dual expertise ensures every aspect of clinical care is proactive, safe, and tailored to each person's physical needs.
